Marijuana Legalization and the Fire Department
Published by Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts

The Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (“Cannabis Act”) allows residents and out-of-state visitors over 21 to legally possess cannabis for recreational use. As the Act imposes clear limits, employer safeguards and the employee’s rights to privacy, there are policy changes to consider, personnel standards to understand and liability matters that come into play with the new ever-growing and ever-changing legal issue.

Our presenters will cover what legalization means generally, help us understand what safe guards districts can put into place to protect themselves, explain workplace privacy and marijuana, and give you answers about banning off-duty cannabis use for your members.
